CANADIANGIRLS’MATHCHALLENGE

The CGMC is an annual, student-led conference that aims to inspire more high school girls to pursue mathematics and STEM.

OUR MISSION

The Canadian Girls' Math Challenge (CGMC) is a one day math conference dedicated to empowering female-identifying and nonbinary students to explore mathematics with greater confidence. We aim to break down barriers in competitive math by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where participants can develop problem-solving skills, connect with fellow peers in the community, and discover opportunities for girls in STEM fields through keynote speakers.

Competition Experience

Participants engage in a contest modeled after entry-level competitions such as the AMC and early AIME, followed by detailed solution walkthroughs to deepen understanding of the problems.

Δ

Exposure to Role Models in STEM

Through keynote speakers, students gain insight into what math may bring them in post-secondary education and in their future professional careers.

A Supportive Community

Mathematics competitions can be stressful for many with pressure to perform, but the CGMC offers a stress-free environment for participants to do math for the love of math and connect with fellow peers who feel the same.

WHY CGMC

The CGMC creates a low-pressure environment where students at all levels can explore their interest in mathematics. Whether participants are just beginning or already committed, they can gain valuable insight from our speakers who share how math can shape opportunities beyond just the next few years in high school.

OUR STORY

Founded in 2019, the CGMC was created to address a common experience for many girls: walking into a math competition and realizing how few girls are represented. At higher levels, the gap only becomes more pronounced. The CGMC was built to address that by providing a platform where students feel supported and encouraged to do math for the love of math.
